Medicaid and insurance

Which Medicaid plan does my child have, and does it cover ABA?

Short answer

Look at your child's plan card: the plan name is on it. Since February 1, 2025, Florida Medicaid ABA is approved and paid for by the child's managed care plan (SMMC), with prior authorization. So the real question is usually not whether the plan covers ABA, but which agencies are in its network.

Where can I see which plan my child has?

  • On your child's plan card. Call the Member Services number printed on it with any question.
  • On the Choice Counseling portal, flmedicaidmanagedcare.com, which has a Spanish version. It shows your child's enrollment status and plan.
  • By phone with Choice Counseling, the Medicaid service that helps families pick a plan: 1-877-711-3662 (TDD 1-866-467-4970), Monday to Thursday 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

How do I know if an ABA agency is in the network?

The agency needs to be in your child's plan network. Ask the agency which plans it works with, then confirm with the plan's Member Services. AHCA says your child's plan can help you find a behavior analysis provider in its network. If you are thinking about switching plans, first ask Choice Counseling whether your current providers are in the new plan's network.

When can I switch plans?

  • During the first 120 days after your child is enrolled in a plan.
  • Once a year during open enrollment, a 60-day period.
  • At other times only with a state-approved reason ("for cause"). The Florida Health Justice Project lists reasons such as poor quality of care, lack of access to providers experienced with your child's needs, and an unreasonable delay or denial of service. For some reasons you must file a grievance with the plan first.
  • Before you switch, ask the new plan how it will handle your child's ongoing therapy and whether the agency will need a new authorization.

What happened to the CMS Health Plan?

Since October 1, 2026, Molina Healthcare runs the Children's Medical Services (CMS) Plan statewide instead of Sunshine Health, according to AHCA, and members moved over automatically. Our CMS Health Plan page explains what this means for ABA.

Which plans does Paramount Behavior work with?

In Palm Beach County we work with Molina Healthcare, Sunshine Health, Children's Medical Services Health Plan and Community Care Plan, in English and Spanish. Call us at (561) 421-0047 to check your child's plan.

Do I have to switch plans to get ABA?

Not necessarily. Since February 1, 2025, SMMC plans pay for ABA. What matters is finding an agency in the network of the plan your child already has.

What if my child is not in any plan?

AHCA says children not enrolled in an SMMC plan stay under fee-for-service, and Acentra reviews the prior authorization instead of a plan.

Can I get help in Spanish?

The Choice Counseling website has a Spanish version. Our page on your right to an interpreter explains the language help Medicaid plans must give.
